True Fan Series: Introduction
In order for a person to consider himself or herself a true fan of a particular team the following requirements must be met:
(1) the person must not leave a game of the particular team early - exception
(2) the person must wear at least one article of clothing that shows support for the particular team while attending a game - exceptions
(3) the person must own at least one object in his or her home that is affiliated with the particular team, and that object must be clearly visible to guests.
(4) the person must attend at least one game of the particular team during the regular season (subject to exceptions)
(5) the particular team must be the geographically closest team to the person (subject to exceptions)
(6) the person must satisfy all of these requirements for the minimum of five seasons, and one of those seasons must have been a losing season for the particular team.
(7) the person may not be a true fan of two teams that compete in the same sport
The drafter of this article reserves the right to amend, add, or revoke any of the above requirements. A person who satisfies all of the above requirements obtains the title of “TRUE FAN OF [insert team name here].” However, if a revocation, addition, or amendment of the requirements causes a person to cease to satisfy the requirements then that person will be stripped of his or her true fan title—these requirements apply retroactively.
Drafter’s Comments:
A common debate amongst sports fan involves the issue of whether someone is a true fan. This article hopes to guide the debate to consider the above requirements when assessing someone’s true fan status. Please click on the links to view the requirements in more detail (details in progress). Also, this is a work in progress so please offer suggestions in the comment section on how I can make the article more accurately reflect the true fan (i.e., tell me what requirements need to be added, revoked, or amended).

Most of the criteria looks good, especially #7 and stipulating that one of the seasons must be a loosing season.
I think I may have issues with #5 depending on the details. Right now I have a few issues with it. One, what if it is a situation like the Bay Area where there are two football teams. If I were to live in Pleasanton the closest team would be the Raiders in Oakland, but I would rather watch PeeWee football for the rest of my life than be a Raiders fan. However, the 49ers are only a few miles away so I would easily be able to attend their games and root for the team. Am I not a true fan just because there is another detestable team a little too close to me.
Also, does your rule mean that as long as the Raiders are in Oakland I cannot be a true 49ers fan, but as soon as they move back to LA I can be?
Finally, what if I simply choose to root for a team that is across the country. How am I not a true fan simply because they play a few thousand miles away. What if I spend every dollar of disposable income I have to fly to their stadium and I manage to attend every game every season. Would such devotion not earn me the right to be called a True Fan?
But the rest of the criteria look pretty good. I would not have thought of #3, but I think it is right on.
I need to work on being a true fan because I am not meeting all these criteria ;).
